A former Democrat’s plan for conservatives to unite America

By | October 9th, 2012

A fierce advocate for freedom and opportunity is former U.S. Rep. Artur Davis who spoke last week at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Colorado in Denver. Davis, a Democrat when he represented Alabama in Congress, is now a Republican based in Virginia.

Here’s some of what he had to say…

“Conservatism is the political faith that picked up a fallen, broken country in 1980.”

“This [2012] election is so within our grasp. The only way we will lose it, is if for this last 31 days we talk only to each other.”

“There are men and women who work with their hands, whose faith and values guide them every day. They need to know that our cause is their cause.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, there are men and women of color – black and brown and yellow – they have our faith, our values; they yearn for their children. They feel free, but they need to know when we say ‘we’ [that] we mean them, too.”

“Ronald Reagan rebuilt this country and reunified this country because he figured out a way to make conservatism an all-purpose enterprise that could touch every American in every place.”

“May we resolve that when we have power – and we will have it after Nov. 6 – we will not let the left own the market on opportunity and shared prosperity.”

“A party that has [La. Gov.] Bobby Jindal and [U.S. Sen.] Marco Rubio and [Utah Congressional candidate] Mia Love need not take lessons from the left on diversity. So, no apologies. No defensiveness.”
