Ed ♥ Debbie, Debbie ♥ Ed — they both love raising your taxes

By | September 20th, 2012

At an event for Colorado delegates at the recent Democratic National Convention, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo., was dripping with admiration for U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman, D-Fla., chair of the Democratic National Committee…

“One of my best friends in the Congress, who has the intellect, the energy, the drive like nobody else I have ever met, and who is so dedicated to re-electing the President, is Debbie Wasserman Schultz,” said Perlmutter. “There’s a word that I love: indefatigable….She is the epitome of that word, of being tireless in seeking to change the way this country operates, for the better, for those of us, you know, just the regular working guy, working gal, whoever it is, not the 1 percent.”

“Debbie is out there every day, on message, to make sure that Barack Obama is re-elected to the presidency of the United States. And it is my pleasure to introduce my friend, Debbie Wasserman Schultz.”

They’re certainly “indefatigable” when it comes to raising your taxes. Wasserman Schultz has earned straight Fs from the National Taxpayers Union, which rates “every vote that affects taxes, spending, and debt.” The watchdog group Council for Citizens Against Government Waste consistently rates her, “Hostile.”

Perlmutter – who represents a suburban Colorado swing district but has nonetheless backed a Big Government agenda – also pulls Fs year after year from NTU, and CAGW considers him only slightly less “Hostile.”

And Wasserman Schultz is certainly “on message,” if the meaning of on message includes earning the derision of CNN anchors often sympathetic to Democratic Party talking points. Here’s Anderson Cooper’s reaction to Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s recap of the disputed vote to reverse the Party platform to retain reference to “God-given” — and to cite Jerusalem as the capital of Israel…

“Debbie Wasserman Schultz said it wasn’t a change of language, there was no discord that we saw, and it was a 2/3 vote. I mean, that’s an alternate universe.”

Here Wolf Blitzer of CNN, exasperated in spending nearly four minutes to get Wasserman Schultz to stipulate to the basic language of the current Ryan Medicare proposal that those currently over 55 wouldn’t be affected…

And, just for fun, here’s U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., attempting to have an “adult level conversation” on entitlement reform with Wasserman Schultz during a joint appearance on CNN in 2010…

So perhaps Perlmutter’s constituents might reconsider who’s representing them given this endorsement…

“Nice words about one another are loosely thrown around at podiums like this,” said Wasserman Schultz at the Democratic convention event. “But there’s one thing that I absolutely agree with, and that is that one of my closest friends in the Congress is Ed Perlmutter. And that is because he is the most special person.  He is so genuine, and so passionate, and so…normal.”
