Debunking the purported “War on Women,” U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., said that women’s votes in the 2010 election put Republicans in control of the House of Representatives and “fired” then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
“We’ve heard about the ‘War on Women,’ right?” said McMorris Rodgers, speaking at a “Women for Mitt” Romney event at Hudson Gardens in Littleton, Colo., on Aug. 17, 2012. “Now, so what I think happened is Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Patty Murray, from my state, recognized that they couldn’t let that stand, you know, if the Republicans won the women’s vote in 2010, largely driven by the economy and the health-care bill. Women in America did not like the direction that this country was headed. Women in America actually fired the first woman Speaker of the House, when you think about it, right?”
