In November, as daylight – and the number of Occupy protestors – began to dwindle down to a precious few, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., [the keynote speaker at the Denver Democrats' HD-7 Unity Dinner on Saturday] was asked by CNSNews.com about the lawlessness and violence that accompanied some of the Occupy Wall Street protests nationwide:
CNSNews.com: “You mentioned that you support the Occupy Wall Street protestors? What are your comments about some of the deaths and some of the crime that has occurred around some of these protests?”
WATERS: “I think that’s a distractions from the goals of the protesters. Let me just say this. Any time you have a gathering, homeless people are going to show up, they will find some comfort in having some other people out on the street with them. They’re looking for food. Often times the criminal element will invade. That’s life, and it happens.”
That may have happened, but I don’t think it happened as often as Waters implies. But hey, here’s an idea! It’s nice outside, and it’s light until late. Instead of having their dinner inside at a nice hotel, why don’t the Denver Dems have it at Civic Center Park, where Occupy Denver camped out? Or better yet, why don’t they invite the Occupiers inside for some air conditioning and a nice meal?
At the very least, it would allow the Occupiers to do whatever they do for an evening without “distractions.”
