Colorado state Rep. Daniel Pabon, D-Denver, at the redistricting hearing at the state Capitol last week was, ahem . . . refreshingly honest.
The Republicans in the House offered their map, led by Rep. David Balmer, R-Centennial, and presented it to those attending. Then the Democrats, led by Pabon, presented theirs, a compromise from their first offer which had Boulder (currently in CD2) and Grand Junction (currently in CD3) together in CD2. While Pabon was describing his map, he explained his latest revision, but with Boulder back in a different district from Grand Junction:
“One thing, if you want to zoom out, that we heard quite dramatically, and we’ve heard this in different contexts, is no one wants to be with Boulder. And we’ve heard that from our Mesa County friends when we had the CD2 going out to Mesa County.”
